Damn Gate of Babylon rip-off. Lol. Still pretty coll though.
Godou has just arrived to Italy in order to return a stone tablet he got from his grandfather. It’s a magical grimoire of sorts, so says the not-so-random female knight he meets while roaming the streets. She demands that he hand over the stone tablet, as she claims it is too dangerous. But lo and behold disaster soon strikes when a rogue god shows up to destroy stuff.
Yeah, gods. The mythical kind of gods we read from Greek and Roman mythology. They’re the temperamental ones who has no qualms to destroy stuff for whatever reasons. Those kinds of gods.
The female knight, named Erica, leaves Godou behind and goes out to face this divine beast. But really now, what can a mere human do. She pretty much gets pushed back.
But as Godou is running around the place, he chances upon this odd adolescent, who spies his stone tablet. He begins commenting some odd stuff, eventually declaring he’ll let Godou hold on to it for now. Then, he disappears and a white horse suddenly appears, and disappears shortly after in front of Godou.
The divine beast soon disappears (no thanks t Erica, really), leaving behind a trail of disaster behind him but both Godou and Erica very much alive. For some reason, she decides to tag along with him as he makes the delivery to some magician in town, to return the stone tablet.
Upon meeting that magician Lucrezia, she begins explaining what that stone tablet is: It is the secret book of Prometheus, the trickster who stole fire from the gods. She decides to keep having Godou look after the stone tablet, leaving everyone puzzled.
The next day though, a new god appears before them, a Phoenician god named Melqart. He’s on a journey to meet with another god in order to duel, and that god is a Persion god named Verethragna, who turns out to be the same boy who Godou met.
Erica goes out to try to stop the god’s battle, for fear they will destroy the island, but really now, what can she possibly do? Anyway, Godou comes in to save the day, brokering an agreement with Melqart to protect them given that his safety assures that Verethragna’s power will not be completed, since one of his avatars, his powers, is inside the stone tablet. So yeah, that particular god gave himself a handicap for the lulz. These damn crazy war gods.
Anyway, it is a successful arrangement, as Melqart whips out a force field to protect Godou and Erica. That is until Verthragna pulls out his golden sword, one that can cut through divinity. It makes quick work of the force field, and so Godou makes his stand.
He fires off the white horse avatar the god gave him, but of course, the god ain’t losing from his own power. But that’s where the Prometheus part plays in: Godou manages to steal the golden sword from the god. Cue a kissing scene that absolutely did not make sense (I need an explanation why they needed to kiss), and Godou whips out a bootleg Gates of Babylon, firing off a golden sword to kill Verethragna.
And that, my friends, is how Godou became a godslayer. Any questions?
It was a pretty slow and boring start though in my opinion, until they decided to whip out the Gates of Babylon at which I began to go, “Oooh, shiny…” It was shiny after all, lots of golden sword. Main character is pretty okay I guess, seems more proactive than most leads. Erica is well, uhm, she’s a blonde swordswoman. That counts for something! Seriously though, typical tsundere. I still prefer Tsukiumi. But I prefer her over everyone else.
Oh, it also has some ecchi in it, but not as much as the other ones. So pretty safe in my opinion.
