Summer 2012 – Kokoro Connect

Five friends. Eccentric people. In a club. Been there, done that. Body switch. What?!!

And yes, that’s the premise of the show. Aoki, Inaba, Yui, Iori and Taichi are five unlikely persons who somehow found themselves in the same club. Basically, they had no other clubs to go to, but the school required them to do so and so they’re now in some Student Cultural Club.

But then one day, Yuo and Aoki suddenly report to the other three that they experienced body switching the night before. It happened in the middle of the night, and lasted for about 40 minutes. Of course, the other three do not believe them, that is, until Iori and Taichi encounter it themselves.

So… what does a guy do upon learning that he is inside a woman’s body? You guessed right…

Simple premise, but pretty wacky. I came in watching this show with some apprehensions: Gender bender isn’t really my thing. But somehow Kokoro Connect made it work, keeping things both light and amusing enough. I’m just not sure though how they’re extend this gimmick to a full season. I mean, eventually we’d probably get tired of it and the confusion it creates will soon become less amusing.

But at least for now, it’s good enough for an amusing watch.
