From Supersolid comes a Temple Run kind of running game which has brighter colors, cuter graphics and more interactive environments. Super Penguins is a strong contender in this game genre among the roster of free Android games available by the hundreds in the Play Store. The gameplay is simple, just keep running for as long as you can and collect as many fish as possible. Control is also pretty basic. To move from side to side, you just have to tilt your phone and tapping on the screen makes your character jump. You can play the game offline and for the whole time I’ve been playing it, there weren’t any instances that the game crashed.
The fish you collect gives you the chance to buy powerups, new characters and permanent boosts for your game. There are two ways in which you can collect; one is by running for as long as you can and collecting fish along the way and second is by launching the game and collecting the fish bonus daily. After accumulating so much fish, the key is to choose wisely which perk to spend it on.
Super Penguins can get quite addicting because unlike other running games, the environments are continually changing and gets more and more challenging. The game has that one-more-before-I-stop factor and before you know it, you’ve invested hours and hours of your day to it than you’d care to admit. Say goodbye to productivity.
The sound isn’t bad either, in fact there were some points in the game that I found it engaging. The graphics were smooth on my S2 and the colors were bright but doesn’t hurt the eyes. You have the option to choose which character you’d like to run for a particular game during the start and you can also choose a permanent upgrade or boost for that run.
my favorite of course if the purple penguin
Aside from collecting fish, there are also lots of goals to accomplish throughout the game. You get them as soon as you fulfill the needed requirements. One thing that I like is rescuing the hostage penguins. They give item boosts like the rocket which lets me zoom off and skip through a large part of the game terrain.
The only bad thing about Super Penguins that I can see is that it can get pretty challenging in difficult if you’ve gone very far into the game. However, that’s also the fun part of it. The faster you run, the larger the bonuses will be.
Super Penguins is a good free Android game to pass the time whether you’re a casual player or not. I’m looking forward to more upgrades from the devs in the future, like more characters and more boosts. However for an initial effort, this holds out on its own.
