Steam Machines haven’t taken off much but its a promising technology that is aimed at bringing the PC to the living room. Basically, it brings PC gaming to the entertainment center of the home but as of right now, it hasn’t taken off since support for the SteamOS (based on Linux) hasn’t had much games made for it. This is remedied by game streaming though from a central PC which may be Windows-based to act as the primary gaming machine and stream controls and audio/video to the Steam Machine.
But adoption could be made quicker right now, with the announcement of the SteamBoy Machine. Bearing the same SteamOS in a handheld body, the SteamBoy Machine is expected to come with a quad-core mobile processor, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Not as flexible as its desktop counterpart but this configuration would be enough to play many indie games but provided the onboard GPU can handle it, even light 3D games.
The SteamBoy Machine is expected to launch 2015. Check out the video trailer above for a teaser.
