Pinoy Gaming Festival 2011

Last Oct. 29 – 31 were the dates that marked the three-day gaming event at Cyberzone, SM North Edsa Annex which we came to know as Pinoy Gaming Festival 2011. The three day event was filled with gaming tournaments for DotA and Starcraft 2. Local Cosplay celebrity, Alodia Gosiengfiao also graced the event on it’s first day while the cosplay competition was held on the last day.
Since we weren’t able to cover all three days. So here are the coverage pictures I took during the last day of the event (after the jump).
Say Hello to Dota on Starcraft II
0If it weren’t enough that Defense of the Ancients is one of the mostly played custom maps for Warcraft III to date, Blizzard has decided to bring the Massive Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game to Starcraft II in the form of… yes another custom map.
The Starcraft II version of the world-famous MOBA game was released during Blizzcon 2011 and features 12 heroes coming from not only the Starcraft but from other Blizzard titles as well (such as Sylvanas from World of Warcraft).
Based on the video, the SCII custom map retains the gameplay MOBAs are famous for.
The question now is, will this be as famous as DotA and it’s other derivations?
Pinoy Gaming Festival is Coming… Are You Prepared?
0If you’ve been aching for more gaming events this year, there’s an upcoming 4-day event this month that will be held at the fourth floor Cyberzone SM North Edsa titled as the Pinoy Gaming Festival. Attendees would get the chance to see teams from DotA duke it out for the MPGL Grand Finale while the PGF will be host to the Starcraft 2 WCG qualifiers
Aside from the tournaments thsi coming Oct. 28-31, there will also be other contests such as the planking competition alongside an on-site photo contest.

Philippine Teams Dominate HoN, SC2 and DotA in TGX 2011

The weekend of September 9-11 of 2011 would mark as one of the proudest days for the Philippine Pro Gaming scene. Our representatives for Heroes of Newerth, Defense of the Ancients and Starcraft II, demolished their competitors in the three day gaming expo, known as TGX 2011.
Gamescom 2011 Releases CG Trailer for Dota 2
0Gamescom 2011, the annual gaming event held at Cologne, Germany was the epicenter of one of the year’s biggest releases. Steam’s own take in the Massive Online Battle Arena genre, Dota 2. The CG trailer released at Gamescom featured a lot of familiar characters from the country’s currently most played network game. While the trailer didn’t show anything else aside from a merchant talking and some characters in action, it’s a good preparation in what we can expect from the art style of the game.
Incidentally, we also have a team sent to compete in the Dota 2 tournament with a million dollars as grand prize.
Dota 2 Announced and Under Valve

Yes ladies and gents, you read it right, what you see up there is the official “logo” of Valve’s latest game on the works, Dota 2. Before you start going all googly-eyed and all OMFGFTWBBQAWESOMESAUCE about it, the game is not yet out till 2011. When exactly, well that’s still up in the air and the biggest speculation on the game.
Oh, just to make things clear, ICEFROG is on this project with Valve. That’s the first thing I made sure to check upon hearing the news. Being a former player of this WCIII mod, I was pretty surprised that this news came out from joystiq and game informer.

When the local internet scene began taking hits on the DotA gaming public I wasn’t one of those people who jumped the bandwagon and threw stones at the Warcraft III custom game and the players who were obsessing over it. I wasn’t one of those people who picked up a stone and threw it at the obsessed DotA gamers because I once reached that stage where I consciously chose playing the game over my girlfriend (who’s now my ex, thank God).
