Night Owl Games officially released their Facebook game, Dungeon Overlord. The game boasts that it’s a “hardcore Facebook game” and that you can do a lot of things on the game such as: Building your legion, setting up your own “realm” and eventually fighting against other would be Overlords.

Zynga’s version of the classic Hangman game is now available for free on the Android Market but with slightly tweaked gameplay and much much cuter graphics. The game objective remains the same, guess the word that was given by your opponent. If you’ve played Words with Friends, you’ll notice similarities in the main menu interface and the graphic style.

Hanging with Friends can’t be played alone, (nor with a computer as an opponent) as the name suggests. You can invite friends to play with you through the Facebook integration or with other friends who have the game in their mobile phones too. At the very start of the game, you will be asked to choose your character. After choosing, you will then be taken to the game interface.

At the very top, you’ll see both your name and the name of your opponent. Under it will be icons of balloons. These indicate how many you are still hanging on to. You’ll also notice a bonus point bar, I will get to this later on. At the middle of the screen you’ll see your character and your opponent’s character suspended midair with balloons over a river of molten lava. As you may have guessed, instead of seeing a stick drawing hang if you’ve missed the letters, Zynga’s version involve balloons popping. This might be an effort to make the game more child-friendly.

You are given 4 strikes or four letter misses per word. If you don’t guess the word correctly and you’ve struck out, you’ll see your character floating lower than your opponent. If you look closely, there’s a great chance he/she will be scowling too. However, if you guess the word correctly, you’ll stay on the same height level. After your turn, you are given a set of letter tiles that you can form a word on. My advice is to create an 8-letter word that is difficult to guess and not used in common everyday conversations. The created word is calculated and the points go into your bonus bar.

As soon as a player’s character falls into the lava, he/she loses the game.

Aside from being a geek, I’m also a big nerd and part of that is being obsessed with word games. Since I can’t find a decent free Scrabble game available in the Android Market (that’s not country specific), this was like a gift from heaven. It also has the added bonus of getting to play with friends since it’s synced with Facebook.

Starting the game for the first time requires you to create an account and this is where you’ll also be asked if you want to integrate the app with Facebook. The game screen shows the whole game board that you can pinch to zoom in and out to view the tiles up close.

At the bottom are your playable tiles including additional controls like recalling, shuffling and actually playing the tiles you chose.

The game updates every few minutes and it just takes a while to sync moves with Facebook. I think this is the only flaw because you can’t see your opponents move immediately. The good thing is, once the game is synced, you’ll be notified of your turn. There’s also a built-in chat within the game so that you can taunt and trash talk your opponent.

So far, I’m having fun with the game especially when I’m getting creamed by my opponent. There’s always the option for a rematch and payback.

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Filipinos are now recognized as one of the world’s top video uploaders on the most popular social networking sites. As such, Intel, the world’s largest silicon company, recently announced a new digital short film-making contest for Filipino home-movie enthusiasts called the “Intel Digital Showdown”. This contest taps in to the Pinoy’s creativity and fondness for creating and sharing videos on Facebook.

“We want to showcase the Filipino creativity and skill across the region and channel it through the usage of a PC,” said Randy Kanapi, marketing manager for Intel Microelectronics Philippines, Inc.

Winners of the contest have the chance to win notebook computers powered by the 2nd Generation Intel® Core^TM i3, i5 or i7 processors.

Interested participants must first ‘Like’ the Intel Facebook to join. The theme of the videos must be based on how the PC makes an impact in their life and may either be 30 seconds, 50 seconds, or 70 seconds in length. Videos may be shot in any format. Submissions must be converted into FLV video and files must be no larger than 10MB.

Participants can submit as many original entries, but can only win once. Finalists will be chosen by a judging panel appointed by Intel, after which their entries will be uploaded to the Intel Philippines Facebook for voting by Intel fans.

To increase chances of winning, Intel also commissioned renowned film directors RA Rivera and Quark Henares to provide mentoring and film-making expert advice on Facebook.

Voting will be open to the public for two weeks after the finalists’ submission of entries. The top three shortlisted films with the most number of votes will be the winners. Deadline for entries is on July 22, 2011.

I had been a big Snickers fan since I was a kid and I never thought that a game about Snickers would ever be made. But guess I was wrong right? (loL) Well with the announcement of the Snickers game last friday, I had spent a few hours (YES HOURS BELIEVE IT OR NOT) and played this frustratingly competitive browser flash game (cause I seriously want to win SOMETHING).

The Snickers game comes in two form, the Augmented Reality version where you’d need a printed hungerlings photo and the keyboard version of the game. The premise is simple enough and similar to both types. You need to eat the Snickers bar falling while evading the bombs and the brand X chocolate bars. Simple enough right? But the thing here is, this is a speed competition so you have to be really fast on both versions if you want to have any chance of winning.

I like to gloat

The Augmented Reality version needs to have you on the webcam and controlling the hungerling with your head. You have to evade the bombs and x-bars by weaving which isn’t really easy to do specially if you have a very unresponsive cam.

If you dont have a webcam or you think your webcam is useless, you can opt to participate with the keyboard. With the use of the arrow keys you have to run away and avoid the bombs and the x-bars.

Achievements in the game can be shared through facebook and twitter (if you’re like me who likes to gloa- i mean share )
