With the recent death of a local DotA player (Guess there was something more into the incident than earlier reported) due to a heated exchange that turned sour fast, I decided to reevaluate the already prevalent Trash Talking culture we have in our games, may it be MMORPGs, MOBAs or what not. We Filipinos have earned to the title as one of the most unruly, rude and uncultured people in online games.
Now for this week’s Talk2Gaming I want to hear your two-cents in Trash Talking in general AND the recent stabbing of Barry Robledo?
Being an active player of LoL (and I used to play a lot of DotA, when it was still new), I was waiting for the big news someone would get killed over a DotA match. I am equally appalled of the people who actually say, “ang pikon ay laging talo” or “mapikon sa Trash Talk is a sure sign of immaturity” when you have the option of simply not just doing it (trash talking).
I hate the mentality that people think they can get away with one thing (in this sense trash talking) and expect people to let them go just because it’s part of the game. Well, apparently the person who stabbed Barry didn’t get the memo, and Barry had to pay the price with his life.
Before you start gloating in your high horse that people shouldn’t do this or do that, you should start looking at yourself first. ARE YOU PART OF THE SOLUTION? or are you just simply saying one thing but doing another? Don’t expect people to have the same *high* moral standards that you have and take your Trash Talking as simply that, talk.
Madaming pikon sa mundo, don’t think that you can always get away with acting like a douche.

… And that’s why we aint getting any sponsorship from international leagues. :/
we actually had a sponsorship once – remember the SC2 league at Glorietta? But somebody bungled that one up and practically left a bad taste on sponsoring LOCAL leagues/teams
Yeah, I remember that one. I even won a SC2 dogtag from one of ‘his’ online events. Sadly, I never received my prize. Badum… Tss…
 He’s still at large right?
Yup. Nowhere to be found. Everything he posted public are gone.
that is so messed up…. pft
That’s one of the main reason I don’t like the whole shift from LAN to online. Put the internet between two individuals or group in a competitive environment and a few minutes later bad words start flying. This is what separates pros from comp-shop boys.
Now as with the recent incident, it isn’t even about DotA anymore. Even in basketball games or in a more grand scale, football matches or any sporting event fights erupt from the silliest banters between spectators and players alike. It does’t matter how it started, these faggots felt the need to show off their egos and one ended paying the price with his chest meeting the other guy’s blade… twice.
Sikat na sikat na talaga mga pilipino… magagaling mag-dota, nang-iiwan ng syota dahil sa dota, at pumapatay para sa dota. Katarantaduhan.
 *slow clap* well said
I remember playing Arcana Heart 3 online on early morning to perk up because I was really sleepy. I usually do this so that my brain a sort of a headstart. There was this lobby with a cheap guy using loli girl with Ice Arcana. I thought keep-away games, sure, let’ see what you’ve got. I lost the first game because lolkeepaway, but for the next 30min I defeated him 5 times straight switching between three characters. I mean, he just can’t win if he didn’t change his game plan. I then realized I had to take a bath because I should be going, so I PM’d him I’m leaving and left the room.
Later that evening, I got hate mail saying I was a coward. Really? Can’t I go to work now?
It’s not as severe as the net cafe trash talking but it is something to take note. Shit’s irritating.
that’s bad, someone getting killed for a game. Now, I’ll be more vigilant with the games my son chooses to play and who he is playing it with..Â
Don’t know but I wasn’t attracted to online video games and after reading this, the more that I think I wouldn’t venture into it. Â
don’t think that you can always get away with acting like a douche –> super freakin agree!
for those of not a gamer,Â
on a pro games,it is allowed because trash talking is a part of strategies. . .Â
for your opponents to loose focus and make mistakes. . .but like what they’ve said,
not everyone is smart enough to take trash talks. . .
