Synopsis
Hoshitani is an incoming freshman at Ayanagi Academy. This school is known for its music department, as evidenced by its student council members arriving to school via a song and dance number.
Yup, this is a thing now. So if you’re a student council member of your school, you HAVE to do it as well.
Anyway, the said school is holding an audition for its music department. Now, not everyone can get in, as you have to be really good to qualify. If you’re the best among the best, you might even get selected to be a member of a Star Team, one of the five groups directly mentored by the student council members.
And of course, Hoshitani, as well as our other main characters, all participate in the audition.
They all do badly however, due to various reasons. But lo and behold, the five of them somehow not only pass but end up becoming a Star Team just because one of the student council members is an eccentric guy.
Review
This show makes me feel uncomfortable.
It’s not bad by any metrics. The show itself looks quite polished in both art and execution. It’s well made. The important plot elements are all properly set up. We’ve got the school politics, the rag-tag team that needs to learn how to work together, the eccentric mentor, the underdog story, the cannot-be-ignored BL tease. The show is definitely gonna succeed, and not necessarily just because of the fangirls. And the fangirls will indeed come. The show is quite amusing in itself.
My only real beef is that what we’re shown so far isn’t really about musicals, but more of male idol routines. So it’s really more of an issue with technicality at this point. Nevertheless, it still is quite a pretty good show.
But it really just makes me feel uncomfortable. It’s the kind of show that can just be not your cup of tea.
