For some reason, I kind of expected this anime to be related to some kind of card game. I don’t know why, it just had the same vibes. Maybe it’s similar in the sense that this show might have been created to sell toys. It’s Bandai, that could very well be true.
In any case, the premise of the show is quite simple: We’ve got a karate dude who chances upon a great power, a power he is highly compatible with, and uses that to fend of some villains from the darkness, likely from space. The minor difference here is that the alien invaders are not all slimy with tentacles. No, they’re armored and all.

The heroes, three of whom are already active at the show’s start, are similarly armored.

Karate Dude then comes to play by being The Chosen One, the one who will be Earth’s savior wielding some ancient power. The tablet from which he gains his power does kind of look ancient.

Pretty standard stuff. Nothing to be surprised about. Generic, if you want to be negative about.
What stood out for me was the rather, how should I describe it, plain art. For a show that features armor and all, I kind of expected more details in the designs, both of the armors and the characters. It’s not particularly bad, it’s just isn’t as visually appealing as I’d expect for such shows.
Similar case to the battle scenes. While the pilot episode has only shown very slight skirmishes, the battles that they did show kind of felt boring. I don’t remember much at all, just that there was a shark. And as the combatants have helmets covering their faces, no expressions can be seen. Add this to the fact that no one was talking, and you’ve pretty much got no tension in the fight. There’s a reason why sports have commentators and announcers.
All in all, the show feels like it’s targeted to a younger demographic who may be more interested in related toys than the actual show itself… assuming that there really would be upcoming related toys.
Rating: 3/10
P.S.: A good few seconds were spent staring at a rock.
