Typical setting of a demon lord fighting against a hero.
Heck, even the thrown-into-the-modern-world twist is nothing new.
But after being vanquished by the hero and transferring to modern day Japan, the demon lord and his retainer pretty much loses their magic.
Well the demon lord has a bit of magic left in him, but he’s trying to conserve it for the bare essentials. Like say hypnosis for getting information on the modern world. Or getting a family registry. Or getting a bank account. Also an apartment.
And this is where the humor kicks in. They’re actually really really realistic and practical with how they’re handling settling in the modern world.
They’ve got to deal with health insurance…
installment payment on appliances, dwindling food supply…
and yes, even work…
In fact, the demon lord, henceforth known as Maou, is way into his job, even though he and his retainer agreed they will only do this until they figure out how to get back their magic.
But the thing is, this show would not be complete without a girl, so a girl shows up…
and lo and behold she’s actually the hero who beat him in their former world.
So how will Maou continue to cope with the modern world? And exactly why is the hero in the modern world as well? Stay tuned for the next episode!
It’s a thoroughly enjoyable show. I love how pragmatic and invested Maou has become with the world. I mean, he almost cried because their branch couldn’t win the most sales competition for their fast food chain!
