TechPowerUp recently published an article detailing MSI and ASUS sending out samples that are higher-clocked than retail cards. The expose’ has gotten significant noise enough so that EVGA had to ride the wave by releasing a press release about the issue.

With regards to this, I’ve taken the liberty of looking back at our samples from MSI and ASUS as well as those from other brands and taking note of the speeds similar to what TPU has done.

A bit of background on how sample seeding works for B2G and in PH in general, we normally receive our samples directly from MSI and ASUS but there will be times that NVIDIA will send samples to us from a particular AIB. AMD operates via a PR agency in this which purchases retail units for seeding.

That being said, after going through the reviews of the past graphics cards reviews we did until the GTX 700 series, we only found one card that has been shipped to us with OC clocks enabled out-of-the-box and that is the MSI GTX 950 GAMING 2G that we received from NVIDIA earlier this year prior to launch.

Out of all the graphics cards we’ve tested we’ve only had one instance. Just one. Some people look at this issue and focus on the practice itself being a deception, some people look at it as a small issue, some think its alright, etc. it’s a really polarizing topic.

In my opinion as the head reviewer for B2G, I feel like there’s an issue of transparency here if and when it does occur so even if we did get just one sample with OC BIOS set to default, the fact that it did happen remains a cause of concern for some people. That said how big is the impact overall and is it inaccessible to the users? It’s really complicated issue so here’s my opinion on the matter:

With the fact that performance gains are quite small, the important fact is that the clock speeds are accessible to end-users and doesn’t require BIOS updates or any modifications to the card. At the end of the day, if you choose to go with one card because of a 1.5% performance lead over another, you’re still getting a decent card. If the problem is you receive a faulty graphics card with a weak VRM, a faulty cooler or any other hardware issues then that’s an entire separate matter altogether. So you as a consumer are still getting your money’s worth and you aren’t being the denied the ability to reach the same level of performance as depicted in reviews.

Tsaka di naman lahat kayang bumili ng bagong card everytime na may bagong release, kaya bat mo sya overclock kung ok naman ung standard setting nung card… lastly; reviewers have the best equipment to test the device sent to them and they will test it to its extreme kung kaya, Ranting but just saying :)

    • Totoo bro and that’s what I want you guys, the normal users, to feel. Hindi naman pumanget yung product dahil sa mas mababang clocks, so I don’t see the problem here.

    • tsaka 1.5% lang na diperensya e nagrereklamo na, e kung 1.5% lang un from the standard settings by which again, majority ng gamers will use and not overclock their system e ok na un, also to take note most gamers are broke all the time so they really would not bother tweaking their system and risk breaking their favorite brands :) ako nga APU lang can afford ko hihihih!!!

    • Alam nyo I’m very honest with my opinion on things and kahit PC gaming tayo and we love the high-end gear, para saken its still the gaming experience that matter so minsan talaga binabagay yan sa afford naten.

1st world problems tlaga sa kanila, ang babaw ng pinagaawayan, while here i am gaming on my GTX 950 AMP! :)
