UPDATE 7/1/2012: It seems that one of our device has issues and is now being reported. I just hope they replace my unit so we can an update for this post.

Just a quick post regarding what’s going on behind the scenes in our testing. We’ve recently gotten our hands on a pair of PowerColor HD7770s PCS+ and we immediately put it in the test bed for some benchmarks. Oddly enough, Direct X10 and DirectX11 applications will not run or crash the entire system before being playable. DirectX9 works fine though.

Looking around the net, we’ve seen some posts with people having the same issues with different cards. So we did a bit of testing on our own and we found out that the factory OC on the PowerColor cards was the cause of the trouble.

A bit of background on our product, the PowerColor HD7770 PCS+ are factory overclocked cards with 1150 core clock and 1250MHz memory clock. Stepping down the core clock in Catalyst to 1120mhz, we managed to stabilize our CrossfireX setup and managed to run DirectX 11 games and bench with Unigine Heaven 2.1 with pretty remarkable results:

Notice that there’s a drop in framerates in our RE5 bench (2nd and 3rd image) after underclocking the cards but if this benchmark is indicative of what the card can do, then the slight drop is negligible.

We’ve yet to fully see if the cards are stable and we will be running more and more benchmarks and games since we are still currently experiencing crashes even in single card mode.

We’ll be posting a full review for these babies soon. This is just a quick post for those having the same issues. If this doesn’t help you out, hit us up in the comments and we’ll try to help.
