In the Philippines being a gamer who prefers legit copies of their games is hard. Specially for those who are tech savy enough to mod their own units but still stubbornly refuse to do so. I must admit, I personally burned through my pockets to have all these PSP games that I have with me (yes to those who don’t know, I buy UMDs and PSN credits for my games).
Owning games for these units can be really hard on the budget. More so if the game turns out as a “piss poor waste of money” purchase. So what can be our alternative? Instead of owning what we can do is rent a game to see if it’s worth our hard-earned money.
Gamehopper is a local company that offers just that. Think of it as the gamer’s version of Blockbuster, Video City or whatever video rental store you have nearby. Yes, that’s right there is a local company that provides you rental service of actual original games that you can use on your non-modded game consoles.
They even do one better by delivering your rented game at your doorstep (the delivery is FREE btw). Gamehopper has an extensive library of games for the PS3 and Xbox360. All you need to do is pay for a certain amount and you’d be availing their services. To make things easier, here’s their description on how their service works:
I was able to try their service. I listed for renting Xbox360 games and here’s what I had on my list.
I made sure that the game list was full and sent the request before 9am. There’s a certain time frame that you’d need to present the request so that you can get the game the next day. Which I did.
However, the setback though is that I never got the first game on my list since I went for Front Mission Evolved which was just released for almost a week or so on the day I put the title on my list. The only problem I can say about the service Gamehopper provides is that you are under the mercy of the availability of the game you really want to have.
On the up note however is that with their system, you’re given the chance to try out a lot of games you normally wouldn’t be able to because you normally wouldn’t want to spend on. I’m currently half-way through Alan Wake and hopefully before the week ends so I can change the game and get another one.
Gamehopper has a pretty good business set up specially that caters to gamers who want to be legit in their games. If you want to try out their service or if you want to know more you can visit their site and find it out for yourself.
