In the world of entertainment, it is fair to say that the games industry is one of the fastest growing sectors. With the improvements of technology gaming has just got better and better, and there seems no slowdown in the growth that it is seeing.
With that in mind we’ve decided to put together a small list of trends that are helping to evolve the industry into the behemoth that it is becoming. Moving into 2017 it is fair to say that whether it be with first-person shooters, roleplaying games or even slots found on sites such as Casino Cruise may be the biggest trend.
The Virtual World
With the rise of the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and now PlayStation VR, Virtual Reality is probably the biggest trend in gaming right now. It may need to find its feet and become more affordable for gamers, but once it finds that niche in the market, expect everybody to be donning the headsets and entering the world of virtual entertainment.
Augmented Reality
Now that Pokémon Go has exploded in popularity, we can expect more games to take advantage of this technology. Rather than replacing the world around it, this form of “reality” adds to it, and makes the environment around us part of the game. Perhaps the most exciting use of this is Microsoft’s HoloLens which can bring games such as Minecraft away from the computer and onto a tabletop or even the floor. Makes Egyptian games possibly more realistic if it becomes a thing.
Social Gaming
This is perhaps the biggest trend in gaming that has continually evolved this form of entertainment. Whether it is casual gaming, or just about any other form of gaming available, we can now play them with our friends, or total strangers over the Internet. The aim is to let people play together, and be more social, and from the looks of things, this is a trend that will continue to do well into 2017.
The rise of the Indies
With the rise of the Internet and services such as Steam there has been a steady rise in the number of independent developers hitting the scene. Now that Sony and Microsoft are also getting in on the action, it is even easier to discover the smaller more independent games that are becoming available. More imaginative and full of wonder, indie games are well worth checking out.
Mobile Gaming
Whether you are a fan of mobile gaming or not, you can’t hide from the fact that the latest technology in phones has been good for gaming. Big games companies are putting money into casual gaming, as it is a profitable way to tap into a market that has an insatiable need for forms of entertainment. Expect mobile gaming to be one of the biggest trends to shape gaming for quite some time.
While there are even more trends that will continue to shape gaming as we make our way through 2017, the ones we’ve picked above are probably some of the most interesting. Where will gaming go in the future? The possibilities seem to be huge.
