This year will mark the arrival of a new era for the console. With both Microsoft and Sony both announcing new consoles, the hype has never been this high and with Sony announcing the Playstation 5 for the end the holiday of 2020, people are already clamoring on what to get and holding off on what’s on the Playstation 4 right now. That said, let’s refresh at what we already know about the Playstation 5.
New Stuff
Cloud gaming and a host of other possibilities await the PS5 and its competitors. At this point, its not just dedicated titles that these games had to contend with but also offering a similar experience to what many think of as PC-level experience. Gamers are conditioned right now to believe that consoles offer sub-par experiences than their PC counterpart. In a way, that’s true, but from an experience standpoint there’s a lot of arguments to be made that modern gaming has indeed made PC gaming a bit more closer to other gaming experience.
In terms of experiences, take online games for example especially online casinos. Online casino games are catching with modern PC games in quality and graphics and you can check it out for yourself, get free spins no deposit to try them out. But let’s establish something here first, we’re not talking about AAA Call of Duty level graphics, that just doesn’t make any sense. But the way they’re presented and the way that real-world counterpart, is actually portrayed in game, it actually makes sense that many players are actually enjoying the online variation so much more.
Release
So to start off, the release date. Rumors of the PS5 went as far as 2 years ago as the aging PS4 needs to catch up with modern trends in graphics such as raytracing as well as offering a more powerful platform for developers to build higher resolution games on. Putting together Hollywood-class stories isn’t something new for game developers, but pushing the envelope of realism is sometimes the tallest order of the day. The Playstation 5’s current release date as highlighted by their official website is “Holidays 2020” which means anywhere from late October to December 2020. Plenty of time to save up some cash.
Specs
No official specs has been published yet but to accommodate the next-generation of games, the PS5 has some nice hardware for it to choose from. Sony has confirmed though that they will still remain with AMD with the new console and will utilize a chip from based on their Zen2 architecture built on 7nm with the GPU fabbed on the new Navi architecture.
AMD currently has no raytracing technology for mainstream consumers but it was announced that the PS5 will indeed ship with hardware-accelerated, realtime raytracing. This means realistic lighting behavior that will change how players perceive games by making light behave.
Games?
Launch titles for the PS5 are much like the rest of the info we know – very slim. As of this moment the only confirmed PS5 game will be The Last of Us Part 2 and the Ghost of Tsushima. Much of the other developments for the platform are relatively under wraps, even murmurs of redeveloped PS4 ports aren’t official as of this moment. Which begs the question if the rest of Final Fantasy VII Remake’s episodes will be available for the PS5.
