England forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin is now among the favorites for the Premier League’s Golden Boot award after scoring six times in his first four games this season. The 23-year-old, who got himself a goal on his England debut in a game against Wales on October 8, has also scored three times in the EFL Cup and is off the mark in the Europa League at the beginning of Carlo Ancelotti’s first full season in charge.
The Englishman only trails Mohamed Salah for the Golden Boot where UK bookmakers are concerned, with the Egyptian 7/2 while he’s currently 7/1. Ancelotti’s influence has been great for Dominic. The Italian manager has won league titles in his homeland, England, Spain and France and he’s now got the Toffees punching above their weight in the Premier League. They’re out ahead in the race for the title at first place on the league table after four games. Of course, it’s still early days.
“Carlo’s definitely had a positive influence on me,” Calvert-Lewin said ahead of his England debut. “Beforehand I was guilty of doing a lot of my best work away from goal and now I’m focused on getting between the sticks and putting the ball in the net. That analogy from Carlo – it’s not to say I’m a carbon copy of Inzaghi but if there’s elements of his game that I’ve been showing it’s one-touch finishes and being in the right place at the right time.”
His compatriot Harry Kane knows a thing or two about leading all scorers in the Premier League and the Tottenham Hotspur striker is close behind at 8/1 while Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is 9/1. Jamie Vardy won the top-scorer award last season with a 23-goal haul, edging out Aubameyang at 22. The Leicester City forward is also 9/1.
Tottenham’s Heung-Min Son is also on six Premier League goals at the moment but is 10/1 for the Golden Boot. Manchester City and England star Raheem Sterling is 16/1, with Liverpool’s Sadio Mane and Southampton’s Danny Ings at 18/1 and 20/1 respectively.
Fans could also grab 25/1 odds on Premier League new boy Timo Werner, who’s playing his first season for Chelsea. The Germany international hasn’t gotten off the mark in the top flight as yet but opened his Blues account with a crisp strike against Tottenham in the League Cup and only trailed Robert Lewandowski in Bundesliga scoring last season with 28 goals behind Lewandowski’s 34.
Given their hot start, Everton is considered to be a 20/1 favorite for the Premier League title by the bookmakers. Manchester City are the outright favorites at 5/4, with Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham following at 11/8, 14/1 and 18/1.
