We’ve all been there, when we’re halfway into a battle royale match, and the tension starts to mount. You think you’re about to win the day, but before you know it, someone has been behind you the entire time, demolishes any attempts of you winning a match, and before you know it, you are in the midst of the dreaded gamer rage! Gamer rage is not too different from road rage or any other form of anger. And while there’s a lot to be said for games reducing our stress levels, if it makes our blood bubble and boil, what can we do to decrease this rage?

Lower the Difficulty Level

You might not take too kindly to this, but it’s worth dialing down the difficulty for a short period of time. Because if you find that the game has stopped being fun, you may want to consider this option. It’s always possible to get help, this is why a game like Destiny 2 has a lot of help out there for gamers who just can’t get to Flawless. The number of Destiny 2 Flawless Carry providers out there is a testament to the amount of support available. But if you have stopped having fun, there is no shame in taking a step back. We have to build up our reflexes and patience, and while we want to complete the game at all costs, taking two steps forward and one step back will help us in the long run.

Take a Break

If you are on a particularly frustrating level, taking a break gives you the opportunity to remove yourself from the situation. It’s important to remember that taking your mind off the game doesn’t mean you are stepping out of “the zone.” Taking a break can improve your performance when you return. Some people think that they need to stay focused on the game until the level is done, but this can only cause more gamer rage. Taking a break also gives your brain the opportunity to process it subconsciously. Better yet, have a good night’s sleep, because it allows your brain to rest and recharge, while also providing you with the solution to the problem. This means we will have a fresher perspective of the issue upon waking up.

Change Your Attitude to Learning

If you do not like the idea of turning down the difficulty level, you need to learn how to get better. As silly as this sounds, you have an abundance of resources at your disposal. There are many walkthroughs, and videos that discuss techniques. You could, of course, watch someone on Twitch that gives you a new perspective. Sometimes we find ourselves stuck in one way of thinking, which is why we need to change our attitude to learning. Sometimes, we think that we’re cheating if we don’t complete the process all by ourselves, but if we are banging our head against a brick wall, switching up our attitude can make a massive difference to the entire process of completing a game, while also reducing gamers’ rage.
