What is Dragonriding in WoW?
Dragonriding is the new flying method added by Blizzard in the latest WoW expansion, Dragonflight. Players are now able to ride dragons, crossing the Dragon Isles. There are four Dragonflight mounts you can use and customize to fit your personality & style.
The legacy mounts are unable to fly in Dragon Isles, so you have to learn Dragonriding and add Dragonflight mounts to your collection to be able to travel through the air in WoW patch 10.0.
The quickest way to unlock Dragon Riding and improve your flying skills in Dragonflight is to use a WoW boosting service like Kboosting.com.
As you progress through the Dragonflight expansion, you will unlock Dragon Riding, learn the mechanics, and upgrade your flying ability to fast travel between the new Dragon Isle zones. Also, a contest called Dragon Racing is available for players who want to test their flying skills against others.
How does Flying Work in Dragonflight?
Dragon Riding is no more like the flying we were used to from the previous WoW expansions. Flying in Dragonflight feels more like soaring through the air at high speed. You use your basic skill to take off, and then you accelerate using the Surge Forward skill, trying to reach more height at the best speed possible until you have to land again. Dragon Riding has stunning mechanics, but it takes plenty of time to master.
There are two ways you can launch your dragon into the air:
- Using the Skyward Ascent skill
- Double-tap the jump button while mounted.
Vigor (Dragonriding Resource)
The Vigor is your primary resource for Dragonriding in WoW. You use the Vigor during your flight to cast active flying abilities. When you run out of Vigor, you will be unable to use your Dragonriding skills, but it recharges while you’re on the ground and while dragonriding at high speeds.
The easiest way to recharge your Vigor without landing is to get to a lower altitude, build momentum, speed up and let it restore while flying.
Flying changes in WoW Dragonflight
The main flying change that came along with the Dragonflight expansion is the new system called Dragon Riding. The legacy mounts cannot fly in the Dragon Isles and will only act as ground mounts, so you must add the new Drakes to your collection as quickly as possible and learn how to dragon ride.
The flying speed in Dragonflight is stunning. Dragon Riding speed is way higher than flying was in past expansions, so instead of a +310% flying speed, the Drakes have a +830% flying speed.
Dragon Riding vs Flying in past expansions
Dragonriding is the new aerial travel method added by Blizzard in the latest World of Warcraft expansion. It replaces the conventional flying that you are used to from past expansions. Dragon Riding brings some unique features such as:
- Dragonriding has a +830% flying speed bonus instead of +310% in past expansions
- The legacy mounts can’t fly in Dragon Isles
- A new Abilities & Talents system was added in Dragonflight
- Four new Drake mounts that can Dragonride
- New aerial movement mechanics
- New mini-game activities that will test your Dragon Riding skills

You will feel drastic improvements in your Dragon Riding once you collect all Glyphs and complete your talent tree. After you do that, your Dragonflight flying will be way better, so we recommend unlocking all talents as soon as possible in your journey.
There are 48 Glyphs in the Dragon Isles, 12 in each of the four zones that you can find and collect. You can spend your Dragon Glyphs and unlock additional flying perks by opening the Dragonriding Skills & Unlocks tab on the minimap.
