We’ve made guides before on investing and basic finance because we believe that everyone should know them regardless of their career path and passion. However, investing is not limited to money. If you want to still be playing PC games in your 50’s or later, you should invest on fitness. I’m not talking about being ripped at 5% body fat or being as big as professional body builders. You just have to be strong enough in these basic exercises:
Push Up
12 reps
Pull Up
8 reps
Deadlift
1 rep of weight equivalent to 1.5x bodyweight
Farmer’s Walk
50 meters while carrying weight equivalent to 1x bodyweight
Contrary to what fitness magazines and fitness celebrities will tell you, those exercises are enough to give you a good looking physique (assuming you do not have too much body fat). Watch the tutorial videos below on how to properly execute the exercises. Just remember to start with a weight that you can safely lift. Lifting too heavy for your current strength level will just set you up for injuries. Once the exercise feels easier, increase the weight and reps but do it in small steps.
Push Up
Pull Up
Deadlift
Farmer’s Walk
Now, you might be wondering if I’m just a random guy on the internet writing stuff about fitness. Shown below is me doing Pull Ups. My current strength level is not something to brag about but I’m happy with it for now.
For women, the same concepts apply. Forget those pink / tiny dumbbells you see in the covers of Women’s Health magazine. Do not be afraid of building muscle. Normal, steroid-free women wouldn’t build too much muscle since women have much less testosterone than men.
Diet and Sleep
The common mistake of newbies is they focus too much on the exercises but neglect diet and sleep. No matter how hard you train, your progress will be too slow or non-existent if you’re eating crap and sleeping only 4 hours per day. You can easily fix your diet by replacing junk foods, sweetened drinks, and candies with affordable vegetables such as eggplant, cabbage and green peas. Try broccoli if you are willing to spend more. For sleep, aim for 6 to 8 hours and, unless you have a night shift work, do your best to go to bed at 9 PM to 10 PM.
I know some will make excuses as to why they can’t exercise so, I’ll just leave these 2 videos here.
