MNL48 joins their sisters in the AKB48 Group Asia Festival 2019 held in Bangkok, Thailand last January 27, 2019. Held in the IMPACT arena – the same arena where Catriona Gray won the 2018 Miss Universe crown – MNL48 performed with such august company as BNK48, JKT48, AKB48 Team TP, AKB48 Team SH, SGO48, and of course, AKB48.
The event was presented by SHANDA Games and featured various activities such as a mini-concert by each group, High-5 by each group (where fans can approach each group to do a High-5), various booths such as a “Dress like AKB” booth presented by FUJI FILM Instax, a Costume Museum where you can see the various uniforms by the different groups on display.
There was also a Festival Game corner that featured UFO Catchers and an Shooting gallery among others, an Asian Food Corner where the attendees bought refreshments, and the all-important merchandise booth for event-exclusive stuff.
The main highlight of the day was the AKB48 Group Joint-Concert where all of the international 48 groups performed together for the first time. The concert included performances by each group AND mixed units that performed stage songs. MNL48 ‘s center Sheki in particular, stood out during the performance of Blue Rose from Team K 2nd Stage with her powerful voice and energetic performance.
The joint-concert also featured the WRD48 comprised of the top members from each group. They performed the classic AKB48 hit “Heavy Rotation“.
MNL48 really tried to make a good impression in their first performance in front of international fans. From their accoustic set-up during the mini-cooncert, to their lively performances during the joint live, they showed that they deserved their place among the queens of the idol world.
It was a truly momentous event for 48 Group fans and the members themselves. Here’s hoping we see more collaborative events like this in the future.
