New Gunpla are on display at Gunpla Expo World Tour Japan 2015 in Akihabara. These are the next RG GNT-0000 Qan[T] from Mobile Suit Gundam 00: Awakening of the Trailblazer, Master Grade Freedom Gundam 2.0 from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, RE/100 Efreet Kai from Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: The Blue Destiny, as well as an announcement of upcoming Master Grade kits from Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt.
After the successful RG releases of the Exia and the 00 Raiser, it is only a matter of time before Setsuna F Seiei’s ultimate mobile suit gets the RG treatment. As early screens show, the prototype looks identical to the Master Grade version (a solid kit in its own right). Definitely very tempting even for me who does not collect 1/144 scale gunpla. The RG QanT will arrive on June 2016.
And why should I even think of jumping scales when there’s the Freedom Gundam ver 2.0. Most likely incorporating the X-Frame technology they made for the Remastered Strike and the GAT units, this second version of the Freedom Gundam seems to incorporate design cues from the RG Freedom with some new ones added. Definitely a must buy for me. MG Freedom ver 2.0 is coming on April 2016.
The RE/100 finally comes back to life with the Efreet Kai. Being true to their supposed aim to release designs that are either too obscure or too costly to make (usually a combination of both), the RE/100 gives another solid offering. Although I must add that I feel they need to break out next year. Maybe some of those oft-requested suits might do the trick.
The Expo also showed the upcoming V2 Gundam in its decaled glory. Like I always say, Katoki’s decals might be insanely difficult to properly place, but the results are worth it.
There is also an announcement that Master Grade kits from Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt will come in 2016. No specific design though, just an announcement. Hopefully it is a complete line with at least three kits.
There was also something about a “Hi-Res Model” for the 1/100 Gundam Barbatos. Well, I guess it does really look “Hi-Res”.
These are good announcements that sort of rekindled my desire for gunpla once again. Only time will tell if Bandai is going to keep this up, or if things will die down mid-year once again.
