Another good news for Filipino AKB48 fans! According to the MNL48 official Facebook page, AKB48 Team 8 will hold a fan meet on December 3, 2016 at the Movie Stars Cafe.
The event will feature a live show, a raffle, and a ‘high-touch’ (or what we locally call ‘high-five’). The slots are limited, and part of the mechanics for securing a ticket is buying an original AKB48 poster worth PhP 800. The reason for the limited slots is probably because the venue, the Movie Stars Cafe in MOA,can only accommodate so much. It can seat a lot of people (as per my experience in the MNL48 Fan meeting held at the same venue), but not a whole lot to make it open to everyone. The rest of the mechanics will be announced soon at the MNL48 page.
You would remember that AKB48 Team 8 will be performing at the ’60 Years of Philippine-Japan Friendship Celebration’ musical event at the Market!Market! Activity Center on December 4. This makes the total number of official activities of the group in the country to two and hopefully they get more. As usual, you can rely on me to give you a rundown of the fan meet…although I have to buy that poster first or there’s going to be one big, fat, gatecrasher this December.

With payday coming on the 1st next month, IMHO, 800 pesos is a small price to pay for what amounts to a very rare and exciting opportunity (I also attended CosMania more than a month ago, and there it cost more to have a meet and greet with the guest performers from Japan, plus freebies and a privilege to watch the concerts up close), considering that the poster is very genuine, plus the generous food and drinks to go with, and real interaction with the girls, a little more substantial than last year’s 2-day performance (but little-to-no interaction) back at Trinoma.
(An interesting note to know that the standard ticket pricing for a typical daily JKT48 performance at their theater in Jakarta costs around 368 pesos, a fraction of the 3000 JPY (or 1356 peso) ticket price — if you get your name picked in a raffle draw first among hundreds — to get into any of the 200 seats) to attend a normal AKB48 performance in their home theater in Japan.)
I think it depends really on what a person’s priorities are. Some may opt to hold back the money for the Dec 4 event (it’s free, but people had to eat, pay for tanspo and other stuff). Mind you, 800 pesos for an Idol merchandise isn’t exactly unheard of but a lot of this group’s fans are still students who may not be able to convince their parents to give them 800 for a poster. – Stan G.
