AMD president Dr. Lisa Su confirmed in an annual shareholder meeting today that the launch of their next-generation AMD Ryzen and Epyc processors as well as Navi GPUs is scheduled for the third quarter of the year. The products will be manufactured in TSMC’s 7nm process and will be using new architectures.
The upcoming 3rd-gen Ryzen 3000 CPUs for desktop are speculated to have as much as 16 cores for Ryzen 9 SKUs, 12 cores for Ryzen 7 and 8 cores for Ryzen 5 models. EPYC server CPUs will be available in models up to 64 cores. The new CPUs will be made using AMD’s new Zen 2 architecture which offers improved IPC performance and better overclocking.
Navi GPUs are also fabbed in the 7nm process are expected to deliver excellent price and performance in comparison with NVIDIA’s Turing GPUs. Its currently unknown if AMD is pursuing real-time raytracing technology.
No next-gen Threadripper launch date was mentioned.
