Rumors earlier this year suggested that AMD planned to retire its long-running B650 chipset by October 2025, clearing the path for B850 to take over the mainstream AM5 segment. But recent reports from Chinese forums indicate a pivot: AMD has allegedly confirmed that the B650 will not be discontinued, with manufacturers continuing to procure chipsets for new production runs.

The shift appears tied to changing DIY market conditions. With DDR5 prices rising sharply, motherboard vendors are reassessing which platforms builders can realistically afford. The mature, fully Ryzen-compatible B650 suddenly looks more appealing again—especially for value-focused systems.

According to insiders, board makers may now increase B650 orders and expand manufacturing capacity, ensuring that both B650 and B850 coexist to meet varying budget needs.

In short, fluctuating component costs have given AMD’s older mainstream chipset a renewed purpose, keeping the AM5 ecosystem accessible while the market stabilizes… the question is when.
