The game that came out of nowhere in early 2019 and attracted so much attention in short amount of time, finally got a big update, after the release of the Season 2 of Apex Legends. This battle royale game similar to Titanfall provided players with very exciting gameplay through a couple of uniquely designed heroes.
Although they had a brilliant start reaching 50 million players in the first month, the momentum had slowed down and the popularity went down too. This happened due to slow updates with new features to keep players interested. However, season 2 promises a good start to rebuild their fan base and has a lot to offer to the players.
Battle Charge is the name of the new season on Apex Legends and it was released on July 2. As we mentioned Respawn made some big changes in the new season, but also they updated many small issues that players were waiting for a long time.
With the new update, we can see that Kings Canyon has gone through some changes. It seems like all the defense systems had been breached allowing Leviathans and Flyers to wander around giving players another thing to look out for as they can crush you.
Season 2 has also new L-Star weapon which is basically a light machine gun firing larger projectiles than all the other weapon choices and it can be used even to open doors. This new plasma gun can overheat, so it is advisable to keep the trigger down when using it. Just because the weapon is so powerful, it can only be found in airdrops with limited ammo supply that cannot be refilled.
They have also made more weapon attachments as well as different types of ammo known as Hop-Ups. You can use this new ammo to increase damage to shielded targets (Disruptor Rounds) as well as increase the damage to unshielded targets (Hammerpoint Rounds).
One of the biggest updates is the ranking mode in matches. With the new update, the Ranking Leagues mode will pit players against those with similar skill levels with the best players earning the title of Apex Predator.
EA had explained how the new ranking system will work, providing with ranking levels (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond) that will last only for some period of time, called a series, and players will be ranked according to their play. So when the Rank Series is over, all the numbers will be reset and everyone will have a fresh start. Players can team up for Ranked Mode matches, but they must be level 10 or higher.
The legends also received some changes in this Season 2, some of them were improved and others were nerfed a bit. Apex Legends also introduced the 10th legend named Natalie “Wattson”. The good thing is that this new legend is designed with defense in mind and requires more strategic playing style in order to use her skills.
Wattson’s ability is Perimeter Security, which will set up an electrified fence that can slow down the enemy as well as do some damage while pinging the location of which fence is crossed. It has the ability to put up to 12 nodes at the same time, making a defensive perimeter around the team.
Interception Pylon is Wattson’s ultimate that can charge up the team’s shield and destroy any enemy projectiles such as grenades or arc starts. Her passive, Spark of Genious, is designed so she can receive 100% ultimate charge whenever she uses an ultimate accelerator.
Electronic Arts sensed that they needed this change in order to keep the game interesting. These are some of the biggest changes with the Season 2 of Apex Legends so far, but they have managed to make many different small improvements which affect the gameplay in a good way.
EA is also working on several sports titles, like the new Madden NFL game, that will be released on August 2nd as well as the hockey game NHL20, coming 13th of September and the eagerly awaited FIFA20, that will come in the end of September. In March they have already launched a game for baseball expert picks, MLB The Show 19, as well as a game non sports related Anthem. This one came in February and got some criticism, so EA hopes to amend things by pushing one of their most successful enterprises: Apex Legends. Will they be able to increase the popularity of the free to play game again?
