With the popularity of the South Korean sketch dubbed “Plash Speed” where a husband is trying to scheme getting a Playstation 4 Pro without his wife knowing in connivance with the internet service technician as well as his son and more. It’s a really funny skit and I suggest watching the original below.
Social media was quick on the pick-up on the “Plash Speed” meme and ASUS was in on the joke with their routers.
Presumably riding on the possibility of mainstream appeal via niche marketing, ASUS’ newly released AX82U and AX86U routers will soon be the first to be partnered with a brand and that brand is Bandai’s Gundam series.
These leaked images show us a nice preview of the routers. Now I usually hide my router in a network cabinet but these new models are meant for display.
The ASUS RT-AX82U features the Gundam RX-78-2 ‘s signature color theme of white and blue with a hint of yellow, the typical main character colors for the Gundam series with the router’s glow LED highlighting the front. Simple line arts are adorned on top and we can spot an Earth Federation logo onnthe side.
For the RT-AX86U, it dons Zeon’s pride, the red Char’s Zaku II with the Zeon logo and custom panel line work on the top shell. The entire thing is done in red with contrasting black in some of the housing.
For router specs, the RT-AX86U and RT-AX82U are gaming routers that deliver all the benefits of the new WiFi 6 standard, while offering full backward compatibility with existing WiFi devices. WiFi 6 technology provides faster speeds, higher network efficiency, longer range, and improved battery life for connected devices.
The WiFi 6 in RT-AX86U and RT-AX82U uses 160 MHz channels to enable combined overall WiFi speeds of up to 5700 Mbps in RT-AX86U and 5400 Mbps in RT-AX82U.
Regional availability will soon be available. Estimated Philippine prices is Php15,000 for the Char Zaku II RT-AX86U and Php10,000 for the Gundam RX-78-2 RT-AX82U router.
