ASUS ROG has added a compact way to get 10Gbps wired networking to laptops and desktops without a free PCIe slot: the ROG USB-C10G, a USB Ethernet adapter measuring 85 x 32 x 19 mm and weighing 38 grams. According to TechPowerUp, ASUS avoided a captive cable design here, instead pairing the dongle’s USB Type-C port with a bundled short USB-C to USB-C cable and a USB-C to USB-A adapter for broader compatibility.

Compatibility Note: According to TechPowerUp, the ROG USB-C10G runs over USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, which is not compatible with Macs since Apple only supports USB 3.2 Gen 2 and USB4/Thunderbolt. Real-world throughput on comparable Realtek RTL8159-based dongles has been reported between 6 and 8 Gbps due to USB protocol overhead, and using the bundled USB-C to USB-A adapter will limit throughput further.

10Gbps Ethernet in a Portable Form Factor

ASUS positions the ROG USB-C10G as an upgrade path beyond Gigabit Ethernet, citing speeds up to 10 times faster than a standard Gigabit connection for low-latency gaming, high-speed file transfers, and smooth streaming. The RJ45 port auto-negotiates down to 5Gbps, 2.5Gbps, or 1Gbps depending on the network, with a dual-color LED indicating the active speed. The 2-in-1 USB-C and USB-A connector design targets laptops, desktops, NAS devices, tablets, and smartphones, with ASUS listing support for Windows 10/11 and compatibility with Linux, macOS, iOS, and Android.

Extra WAN Port for Compatible ASUS Routers

Connecting the ROG USB-C10G to a compatible ASUS router with Dual WAN support adds an additional WAN connection for higher throughput and a more flexible network setup, with the ability to move that connection to a different network if the primary one goes offline.

Likely Realtek RTL8159 Chipset

According to TechPowerUp, the ROG USB-C10G is most likely built around a Realtek RTL8159 controller. Because the dongle runs over USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, a 20Gbps link, USB protocol overhead means real-world throughput on comparable RTL8159 dongles has landed between 6 and 8 Gbps rather than the full 10Gbps the Ethernet port supports.

Pricing and Availability

ASUS has not published official pricing for the ROG USB-C10G. TechPowerUp reported finding a listing from a Norwegian retailer pricing the adapter at around US$139 including 25 percent VAT, suggesting a retail price in the US$100 to US$120 range once it becomes more broadly available.
