A little over a year ago MSI quietly released concept samples of their reverse-mount connector board concept dubbed Project Zero. Based off MAINGEAR’s patent over rear-mounted connectors, this allows motherboard makers to shift their connectors to the rear of the motherboard tray, allowing users to plug their connectors at the back, essentially hiding cable mess from the display side of the board.
At COMPUTEX 2023, MSI showed off a working unit based off their PROJECT ZERO concept, this time around going another motherboard and completely white theme.
Building off a prototype AM5 motherboard, the build focused on the motherboard’s rear connectors including both power and front panel headers. The case seems to be made to accomodate the layout as required by rear-mounted connectors.
The cable management on the build does show us that using flat cables on this kind of build may require some force to keep the cables down. MSI did use a standard GPU which had its power connector on the glass-side.
