DmC 5 IS an Origin Story

Well… according to the kotaku interview anyway. It seems that I was right in thinking that Devil May Cry 5, the latest reiteration of Capcom’s famous demon hunter is in fact an origins story. After seeing the trailer during the Tokyo Game Show I didn’t jump the gun and started shooting down the game as most fans did.

Local and International fans of the franchise did not like the changes and even called Alex Jones, the lead DmC designer a defiler. In defense however, Jones stated that it was Capcom who approved of the new look for Dante because they wanted a more “western-oriented title”. The developers took almost a year to develop the design for Dante so the story of this new title is still left in the dark.

However Jones did say this,

Part of the ethos of a reboot or retelling of an origin story is to go back and find out why certain totems of a franchise exist,” Jones said, talking about Dante’s famously white hair. “We want to tell those elements of the story.

So there you have it. I personally am looking forward to this because I’m pretty interested on how Ninja The

ory does the game. I’m getting really tired of the game taking on the “new demon threat arises so dante must stomp the sh*t out of said threat”. I mean, Dante’s story is pretty interesting in itself and the previous games only provided a glimpse (save for DmC3 but Dante was already himself during that event). I want to know how Dante turned out the way he is and hopefully DmC5 would feed that craving of mine.

So right now I’m pretty excited… I just hope Ninja Theory delivers.
