Each year, all gamers in the world point their eyes on Las Vegas during the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo – or E3, for short. No wonder since it is the event where both the hardware and software providers reveal their biggest upcoming products – new hardware for PC gamers, new consoles, and loads of new games to look forward to. The E3 has everything short of guides on how to play online pokies so it is truly the most important event for gamers around the world. And for this year, it has quite a few exciting releases and reveals to look forward to. Let’s take a look at some of the most intriguing ones below.
Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft will all hold press conferences this year. The two clashing titans on the console front might give us a few hints on their upcoming rigs, even if both of them have released updated versions of their consoles last year – the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X are both pretty much up-to-date – and Nintendo might also reveal something about its plans for the post-Switch future. But the focus will likely be mostly on the games coming as exclusives to their platform.
Microsoft
Microsoft is expected to announce upcoming titles in all three major exclusive Xbox franchises – Forza, Halo, and Gears of War. Rumors speak of a potential reveal of three Gears games – a sequel, an RTS in the style of Halo Wars and a “battle royale” game. Many hope for the Redmond giant to also give the world at least a release date for Crackdown 3 – it is certainly a possibility.
Sony
Sony will speak from its leading position on the console front, so it is expected not to go big on announcements this year. It has already released God of War, one of its most anticipated titles for the year, and has plenty other games lined up for the rest of 2018 and beyond to keep a low profile at E3. The console maker might, in turn, announce an upgraded PlayStation VR headset, rumors say, and some games to go with it.
Nintendo
Nintendo is expected to show off “more of the same”, with new releases in successful franchises like Pokรฉmon, Mario Party, Star Fox, and others. Rumors speak of the company definitely releasing Super Smash Bros for Switch and perhaps even Metroid Prime 4. Still, the exciting news is probably ahead.
Big Games from Big Names
We don’t expect too many big surprises from Bethesda this year, considering that it has already shown its cards to the world – they are Rage 2, Fallout 76, and other titles. But the company’s presentations might change its way of revealing games sometimes months before their release – it is expected to go all in this year, revealing a series of games set to be released further into the future than ever before.
Electronic Arts will likely try to make up for its bad 2017, caused especially by the backlash due to its controversial loot boxes and the closing of Visceral Games. This year, it is expected to reveal a lengthy demo of its upcoming game Anthem, built by the original Mass Effect team, and rumors speak of the studio’s first venture in the “battle royale” market with a Battlefield-based multiplayer title.
Ubisoft is expected to continue with its most successful franchises – the studio is said to reveal sequels to games like Beyond Good and Evil, The Division, and show the world more of its Assassins Creed and Splinter Cell franchises. Square Enix is expected to release Just Cause 4 (the older games are on sale at Steam at the time this article is written), and give the world some fresh Tomb Raider content. Activision is expected to focus on its Destiny and Call of Duty franchises, as usual. And the rest… well, only time will tell – but it’ll sure be exciting.
