nVidia has just concluded its CES 2013 special event and the biggest highlight of the presentation was the announcement of Project Shield (mistakenly referred to as Thor by Jen-Hsun Huang). Project Shield is nVidia’s first venture into the console market with their own self-branded product.
Project Shield is a hand-held portable gaming device powered by a Tegra 4 processor with a built in 5-inch 720p retinal multi-touch display. The Wifi-capable device also sports a full-sized console-class controls along with analog sticks and boasts Android 4.0. This allows the device to play and integrated with current Android services and allows it to also play PC games via streaming off your gaming rig. Speaking of rig, the hardware itself is capable enough to be played on a 4K HD display as shown in the presentation.
A quick search has yielded that nVidia has a mini-site for Project Shield already and doesn’t show much info on the upcoming console yet allows user to subscribe for updates regarding Project Shield.

This is certainly looking like a hot, new device but the big question is pricing. Hopefully nVidia gets production and development into high-gear so we can finally see these babies.
