There is a saying that goes that you can never please everybody and that’s so true in video games. In an industry where most of it’s “audience” are self-entitled bunch there will always be someone who will complain about something about a game, regardless of how it’s enjoyable. This would be the case with BioWare Senior Writer, David Gaider, who is now currently being petitioned to be sacked by an offended gamer for “stereotyping gays” in Dragon Age II.
In the petition (published 5 days ago), the petitioner (named Oakland) complains that he has “witnessed the worst stereotype homosexual characters” in Dragon Age II. He reasoned that “if you refused to make your moves on a gay character then you are received rivalry points for not wanting to be gay for the character”.
For those who are unfamiliar with the term, the Rivalry Points mentioned is the character’s moral leaning in DA2 with Friendship for good and Rivalry for evil.
The petition stresses on the misrepresentation of homosexuals thus disrespecting them and also “created the worst writing in characters, plot and everything else in DA2.”
This petition comes after another complaint that “Bioware neglected their main demographic: The Straight Male Gamer“. This complaint however was eloquently defended by Gaider. Meanwhile this petition has currently earned 260 signatures as of this post and maybe would increase in the future.

How do they know Gaider is the one writting the gay characters? He is the senior writter, for all I know he might just write the story and fluff of games (quite titanic labor in itself) and leave the rest to other “heplers”…
Agreed. I’m guessing since he’s in-charge, the guy petitioning felt Gaider was responsible for the content the guy found so offensive.
