Statera Studio, the Brazilian studio behind Pocket Bravery and Arashi Gaiden, has officially unveiled its newest project. Published by Nuntius Games, Garden Souls is a 2D action roguelite built around fast combat, stylish combos, and deep build customization, and its Steam page is now live for wishlisting alongside a reveal trailer.
Deep Combat, Endless Build Possibilities
In Garden Souls, players choose one of four Garden Princesses and battle through procedurally generated stages, unlocking new abilities, combining elemental powers, and assembling a different build on every run. Combat extends beyond weapons and magic: players can recruit Bombogs, small plant companions that fight automatically, and summon powerful Strikers mid battle to extend combos and deal extra damage.
According to Jonathan Silva, Game Director at Statera Studio, the team wanted every run to make players feel powerful and push them to experiment with new builds and combo sequences.
Built by a Team That Loves Fighting Games
Garden Souls originally began as a metroidvania before the team redesigned the project around fast-paced battles, replayability, and build variety once they realized combat was the game’s greatest strength. Statera’s background developing fighting games directly shaped the attack cancel system, which lets skilled players chain long, stylish combo sequences.
A New Universe With Room to Grow
The world of Garden Souls, inhabited by warrior flowers, humanoid plants, and a mythology built around the relationship between the Sun and the Moon, was loosely inspired by the song “The Carnation and the Rose.” According to developer Edjunior, the team has more stories to tell than a single game can hold, and plans to keep expanding the universe through future projects.
Long before the official reveal, the game’s protagonist, Rose, had already made cameo appearances in Statera’s earlier titles, including Miura’s stage in Pocket Bravery and a hidden portrait inside one of Arashi Gaiden’s levels.
Four Princesses, Four Playstyles
- Rose: Fast attacks, high mobility, and fluid combos
- Eris: Precision, pogo attacks, and space control
- Solaris: Projectile specialist and field control
- Yuni: Slow, heavy, and devastating strikes
Garden Souls draws inspiration from Absolum, Spiritfall, Hollow Knight, BlazBlue Entropy Effect, and Jump Ultimate Stars. Players who enjoy Spiritfall, Skul: The Hero Slayer, or Astral Ascent should find familiar ideas here.
