Gigabyte has recently held a launch event for its latest additions in their notebook product line that intends to bolster their presence in both ultrabook and portable gaming market. Shangri-La Hotel was host to the formal unveiling in the Philippine market of Gigabyte’s U2442V ultrabook and P2542G gaming notebook.

Gigabyte opened in grand fashion bringing over the media in attendance to the front lobby to witness the arrival of their new offerings carried by an attractive model riding an equally attractive car (a Porsche Carrera S, I think). Vincent Liu, Gigabyte Special Assistant GM and Division Manager gives us the main presentation of the two products.

รย Mr. Liu proceeds to introduce their two new offerings and what their features. First is Gigabyte’s contribution in the Ultrabook segment with their U2442V ultrabook featuring Intel’s new Ivy Bridge processor for mobile which packs excellent performance with a very low power consumption rate. Gigabyte claims that this Ultrabook is different from everything else in the market in regards to its connectivity options. Leveraging the performance further is the inclusion of a GT640M GPU with a 2GB framebuffer along with 128GB mSATA SSD and a choice between 750GB or 1TB main storage option. As with any other ultrabook, Gigabyte’s U2442V packs Intel’s Instant On and Rapid Start technologies along with other new features.

Moving over to Gigabyte’s new gaming portable, the P2542G packs an Intel Core i7 Ivy Bridge processor and a GTX660M GPU. Sporting a full 1080p display and a full 2.1 stereo setup, Gigabyte claims the P2542G to still be as portable a regular notebook coming in at a 38.3mm thickness and weighing only 2.6KG. If that doesn’t impress you, regular “gaming” notebooks come in at around 4.5kgs and have a thickness of more than 2.3 inches. Rounding out the laundry list of features are full USB3.0 ports, HDMI, a blu-ray drive and choice between SSD or HDD or both. Both new notebooks feature nVidia Optimus technology which allows for power saving depending on the active application.

Also present was nVidia’s Jeff Yen to give us a quick talk about their mobile GPU solution nVidia technologies. Mr. Yen (who looks a hell a lot like Dennis Padilla) ran down their GPU offerings like Adaptive Vsync, FXAA, TXAA and PhysX and what it offers.
A Q&A portion was held afterwards and some questions were raised pertaining to Gigabyte’s new entries like support for Windows 8, the lack of 3D display and so on and so forth. Gigabyte explains that their new notebooks will still ship with Windows 7 even after Windows 8 is released and also explains that the gaming-class P2542G was designed with 3D displays in mind but decided to stick with a regular panel. Mr. Liu does assure that the P2542G is capable of 3D Vision on a compatible external display.
[singlepic id=8031 w=580 h=600 float=center]The UV2442V and P2542G will be available in the Philippines at the end of August and will be priced at around $999-$1299 for the ultrabook and $1399-$1599 for the gaming notebook.
Gigabyte sure spent quite some attention in setting itself up for this launch and we would like to thank them for inviting us over. If only we can the point across to them that we particularly disliked -scratch that, HATED- the inclusion of the cosplay segment then we’d be happy campers. In closing, here’s a shot of the nVidia/Gigabyte Angels (the emcee named them):
