NVIDIA’s GDC 2026 showcase wasn’t just about AI upscaling; it was about fundamentally changing how complex environments and classic games are rendered. The company highlighted major leaps in visual fidelity across both modern AAA development and the retro modding scene.
Mega Geometry Brings The Witcher 4 to Life
First introduced in Alan Wake 2, NVIDIA’s RTX Mega Geometry compresses geometry into clusters to update massive scenes up to 100x faster than traditional methods. Now, NVIDIA is collaborating with CD PROJEKT RED to bring a new RTX Mega Geometry foliage system to The Witcher 4.
This new level-of-detail system selectively updates scenes to reduce memory usage while accelerating performance. For gamers, this means exploring incredibly dense, path-traced environments featuring millions of detailed plants and trees, unique animations, and real-time lighting without crippling their VRAM. This technology is also slated to arrive in Remedy’s CONTROL Resonant later this year.
RTX Remix Gets Advanced Particle VFX
For the modding community, NVIDIA announced a major update to RTX Remix arriving next month that introduces Advanced Particle VFX. This powerful tool allows modders to inject spectacular, highly realistic particle effects into classic titles.
To showcase this leap in quality, modder ‘WoodBoy’ has completely remastered the iconic Quake III Arena map, Area 15 NVIDIA Bunker. Available as a playable demo today, the map features 4K path-traced visuals, physical-based rendering (PBR) assets, Neural Radiance Cache, and the brand-new Advanced Particle VFX.
