Yesterday we were given a chance to be part of the press launch of the first filipino environmental awareness themed Facebook game, Alter Space. The event was graced by people from online and print media who were also accompanied by the game’s two endorsers, Cosplayer Alodia Gosiengfiao and Azkals’ defender, Anton Del Rosario (yes I do know my football/soccer thanks to FIFA games lol).
The event was hosted by Aboitiz power, the people who were responsible in giving the head’s up for the game. We were given a semi-lecture on what Alter Space hopes to achieve and what us as Filipinos could do to help lessen the carbon footprint that we leave.
I was able to ask the people behind Alter Space what would be the end-goal for the game itself since playing about it doesn’t really translate into action. I was given the reply that Alter Space aims to “inform” it’s players to know more about how much we hurt our planet and they’re hoping to provide insights on how much we can try and stop from emitting more carbon.
For those who have no idea what Carbon Footprint is here’s the wiki definition of it:
A carbon footprint is “the total set of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions caused by an organization, event, product or person”.[1] For simplicity of reporting, it is often expressed in terms of the amount of carbon dioxide, or its equivalent of other GHGs, emitted.
Aside from teaching facebook users about how to lessen our carbon footprint, Alter Space also aims to present the Filipino culture to the global community with a lot of Filipino cultural elements present within the game.
Alter Space will be live by February 25, 2011 (this friday) and if you are interested to try the game out you can head on to this link and start playing the game (which is currently in its beta stage).
