We’re nearing Intel’s apparent launch of their latest 10th-generation Core processors for desktop dubbed Comet Lake-S with an expected announcement date of April 2020. In another leak for the release, a screenshot from UL Futuremark Systeminfo has indicated the appeance of the Core i7-10700K in the wild with its clock speeds indicated. While the base clock of 3.8 Ghz and 8-cores are no big news, the main take here is the indication that Intel may be gearing extremely high Turbo Boost speeds with the i7-10700K listed for 5.3Ghz turbo speeds. With an expected increase to 125W for the TDP, Intel may be maxing that out to achieve these numbers. If price is decent enough, this might destabilize the competition enough to hold out for another generation.
The chip is essentially an i9-9900K but effectively entering the i7 class as Intel introduces a higher-tier core count for the Core i9 series as its new flagship. The Core i7-10700K as listed features 8-cores and has HyperThreading (compared to its 9th-gen counterpart which has HT disabled). Intel may position this chip at around the same price as the Core i7 9700K and will pit it against AMD’s Ryzen 7 line.
Also worth noting in this screenshot is the usage of ECS Z490 motherboard which indicates the company’s possible return in the higher-end motherboard scene.
