Intel is expected to be celebrating the 40th year of the 8086 processor with a special release for the LGA1151 socket, named Core i7-8086K. The Intel 8086 processor is the spiritual grand daddy of the x86 architecture which is prevalent in today’s computing world. The Core i7-8086K commemorates its ancestor by featuring its name against traditional 8th-gen SKUs. The Core i7-8086K features a base-clock of 4Ghz and a turbo clock of 5Ghz. This marks the first time that a desktop for mainstream users from Intel will feature a 5Ghz frequency out of the box. This does make it interesting to see how much further overclocking can take the processor.
The Core i7-8086K is expected to be binned from cherry-picked Coffee Lake 6-core silicons rather than the rumored 8-core expected to appear during COMPUTEX alongside possible Z390 boards. The commemorative chip will be compatible with Intel 300-series chipset motherboards with LGA1151 sockets.
Earlier listings of the processor mentions a $486 price tag, making it significantly more expensive than the Core i7-8700K.
Intel is expected to announce the chip on COMPUTEX 2018, possibly June 8th.
