ComputerBase.de is reporting that Intel will be ending its production of all Skylake-based product in 2018. Skylake processors can still be ordered until March 2018 and delivered up to September 2018. The Intel Skylake architechture was debuted on August 2015 and welcomes the mainstream debut of the 14nm architechture which was preceded by the unusually short-lived Broadwell release. The Intel Skylake desktop products were a much awaited launch coming off the Devil’s Canyon refresh but did not exactly deliver stellar improvements to the front but guaranteed Intel a solid place in a market that was only contested by AMD’s aging Bulldozer derivatives.
This is a move in support of Intel’s rumored launch of the Coffee Lake processors soon and Intel has a history of never having more than 2 architectures available in the market at one time. The Kaby Lake products, a refinement of the 14nm Skylake process, will displace Skylake and Coffee Lake will take over as the mainstream variant after its launch.
Retailers may still carry stocks of Skylake going forward but after the mentioned date, we expect all vendors to flush their stocks quite quickly.
