In their FY-2019 and Q4 2019 earnings call, AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su has confirmed the company will debut its 2nd-generation RDNA graphics architecture during 2020.
In 2019 we launched our new architecture in GPUs, it’s the RDNA architecture, and that was the Navi-based products. You should expect those will be refreshed in 2020, and we will have our new next-generation RDNA architecture that will be part our 2020 lineup
– Dr. Lisa Su
AMD is expected to forge the 2nd-gen RDNA on 7nm+ (EUV) silicon fabrication process by TSMC to increase transistor counter and improve clock speeds and thus, performance overall. AMD is expected to debut new features with the upcoming architecture including variable rate shading (VRS) and of course, raytracing. Talk about “Big Navi”, larger than Navi 10, was also brought up and an earlier statement by Dr. Su has mentioned the development of these cards for upcoming products. More details are expected from these cards at AMD’s Investor Day conference on March.
