NVIDIA has formally unveiled the GeForce RTX 50-series graphics based on the Blackwell architecture which has been the most sought-after AI chip since its debut last year. With NVIDIA making room for more Blackwell chips, gamers can now finally see what the new silicon offers.
Jensen Huang was the highlight of the opening keynotes for CES 2025 with Dr. Lisa Su not presenting for AMD earlier in the day while Intel interim co-CEO Michelle Johnston Holthaus opened CES 2025’s string of showcases. Back to NVIDIA though, Jensen was quite chill in his opener which brisked through the history of GeForce ultimately leading to the annmouncement of the GeForce RTX 50-series.
The NVIDIA CEO immediately talked about pricing and expected performance while showing off an incredibly thin, dual-slot GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition. Prices were announced and availability for both desktop and laptop versions of the RTX 50 series and then he proceeded to enterprise AI topics in his uncharacteristically short 90-minute presentation.
As for the GeForce RTX 50-series, some of the key details are below.
Performance Improvements:
- Enhanced Processing Power:
- The RTX 5090 GPU offers 92 billion transistors and over 3,352 AI TOPS, outperforming the RTX 4090 by up to 2x.
- Blackwell-based laptops improve energy efficiency with 40% extended battery life through advanced Max-Q technology.
