VR technology has come a long way since its recent resurgence and great strides are being made into bring the technology closer to consumers via entertainment means but from a general standpoint, VR offers so much more than just visual entertainment and NVIDIA has been hand-in-hand with many other brands in furthering this technology for professional applications.

NVIDIA has announced the availability of the DesignWorks VR SDK intended for use by professionals, both designers and engineers, as a solution for many visualization and simulation requirements for various industries.

Bob Pette, VP and General Manager of NVIDIA Quadro demonstrates the power of DesignWorks, demonstrating the rich tools available for designers to create rich, visual representations of their projects. Pette states the many possibilities of VR in various industries such as manufacturing, architecture, medicing, etc. and how NVIDIA’s technologies can improve the creation workflow all the way to presentation.

With NVIDIA DesignWorks VR SDK complimented by NVIDIA QUADRO GPUs, can now leverage the power of ray tracing via NVIDIA iRay, now capable of running in realtime to simulate various lighting conditions without needing to render over and over to show a single scene. NVIDIA extends this further by making available their MDL and Shader Library available to designers, where they can choose from a rich selection of pre-defined shaders that simulate actual materials in real-life which are then further rendered photo-realistically in real-time via iRay. All of this are possible with NVIDIA QUADRO hardware and DesignWorks SDK.

NVIDIA is planning to extend support for iRay and DesignWorks VR further in the industry with its partners and will continue to push it as time goes by.
Those interested in iRay, you can download the 90-day trial over at NVIDIA’s website. Its a subscription-based plugin available for US$295. Do check support and compatibility with your application first.
