Sony will be partnering with Firewalk Studios for a new, original multiplayer IP, according to a blog post by Tony Hsu, Studio Head of Firewalk Studios.
“For our team, the opportunity to create new worlds and inspire more amazing moments for players around the world is the fire and ambition that keeps us going,” said Hsu. “The PlayStation team has a deep love and respect for the medium of games, and some of the best expertise and capabilities in the world to help make big ambitions a reality,” he added.
The studio is already hard at work on development and have been having a ton of fun playing their game as a team. Hsu added that their daily online playtests provided the most consistent point of joy and connection for their crew, making their game an essential part of their “team building”. They hope to be able to deliver the same joy to gamers and that they can’t wait to share what they have been working on when the time is right.
The game in question has been described as a “new, original multiplayer IP”. As part of the ProbablyMonsters family, their collective leadership team is no stranger to building memorable multiplayer experiences. With names that include Game Director Ryan Ellis who was a Creative Director at Destiny, Executive Producer Elena Siegman was also a producer on Guitar Hero II, Bioshock Infinite, and multiple Destiny Releases.
This so-far unnamed “AAA” game seems to be Firewalker Studio’s first major title. Their team certainly has the talent and the enthusiasm. Let’s see if they can exceed expectations with their game.
