Heartwarming action adventure game “Concrete Genie” will be released on October 9, 2019 with a suggested retail price of PHP 1,649, according to Sony Interactive Entertainment Singapore Private Limited (SIES) in an announcement yesterday.
Announced at Sony’s Playstation Media Showcase at Paris Games Week back in 2017, “Concrete Genie” follows the heart-warming journey of a bullied teenager named Ash who regularly doodles in his notebook. When a group of bullies steals the book, rips out its pages, and scatters them throughout the city, Ash goes on a quest to recover his pages. Along the way, he discovers a paint brush that can bring his creations to life. As he masters his magical paint, he discovers it can purify Denska’s polluted walls. Can Ash overcome his personal struggles and paint his hometown back to life?
The concept of this game is very intriguing as it seeks to combine art, a heartwarming story, and action adventure all in one game. The player controls Ash and uses the DualShock 4’s motion controls to create landscapes in the town of Denska. These landscapes can turn into living portraits. How you paint creatures and what color you paint them with will affect their personalities (red paint means fire-breathing abilities, and so on). The game also has a set of core puzzles that the player will have to solve through their artwork.
The game will also deal with the topic of bullies who not only stole and tore the pages of his book, they can actively bully Ash throughout the course of the game by ruining his artwork.
PixelOpus is the developer of the game. Creative director Dominic Robillard says that the game is heavily inspired by Sega’s Jet Set Radio, while the concept of painting street arts came from one of the team members. You can watch the trailer below.
