With the Playstation Network still down and the fear of personal information or credit card numbers being stolen by this “external intruder” still up in the air, another update has cropped out in the game scene.
This new bit of news comes from a PSX-Scene moderator, “chesh” that this recent PSN outage is due to a custom firmware modification for the PS3. According to Chesh, this firmware named “Rebug” enabled users to log into PSN as though they are doing it from a developer console.
Chesh has adamantly stated that what he posted on reddit that what he posted on Reddit was speculation and information gathered from verious devs in the PS3 Scene. That it wasn’t Rebug who did this but more or less that it was the people who figured out what to do with the said network that has caused all of the recent issues (if this was the reason why PSN is down in the first place).
Chesh also reassured the people that this hack was unable to access any user personal information or credit card numbers, specifically targeting the people who start to “freak out” on the latest Kotaku post about the outage.
As of this post, Sony has yet to say anything about this recent update. With the PSN outage almost reaching the 7th day mark, we are left to wonder what is really going on within Sony and who are the one’s responsible for this “external intrusion”.
All we can do now is wait and speculate.
