Underneath the anniversary black and gold, the ROG Crosshair X870E Edition 20 is a current flagship AM5 platform, not a cosmetic reissue of an older part.
- Socket and support: AM5, ready for AMD Ryzen 9000, 8000 and 7000 Series desktop processors.
- Power delivery: 24 (110A) + 2 (110A) + 2 power stages.
- Storage: Up to nine M.2 slots. Two onboard PCIe 5.0 and three onboard PCIe 4.0, plus two PCIe 5.0 via the ROG Hyper M.2 card and two PCIe 4.0 via ROG Q-DIMM.2, all with dedicated cooling.
- Thermals: Full-width thermal deck with a pure copper heatsink, a 3D VC M.2 heatsink on one PCIe 5.0 slot, and a 3mm backplate heatsink.
- Assembly: ASUS AIO Q-Connector allows a cableless AIO install, which is the kind of quality-of-life feature that matters more at this price than another RGB zone.
The Cooler Is Not an Accessory
The ROG RYUJIN 360 Edition 20 included in the box is a dedicated part built for this board rather than a generic AIO thrown in to pad the bundle.

- Radiator: 40mm thick, 20 FPI non-louvered.
- Display: Swivel dual 6.67-inch AMOLED LCD on the block.
- Display Sync-Up Mode: Synchronizes visuals between the AIO and the ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 Edition 20, so the cooler and the graphics card run as one continuous animation.
That last point is the argument for buying into the Edition 20 stack rather than picking one piece. The board, the cooler and the card are designed to talk to each other visually, and the effect only lands if you own all three.
The Box Situation
The packaging deserves its own paragraph. ASUS houses the Crosshair X870E Edition 20 and its cooler inside an ROG luggage bag, which then sits inside the retail carton. The result is plausibly the largest box ever produced for a consumer motherboard, and it turns unboxing into a genuine event rather than a formality. Whether that is worth anything to you depends entirely on how you feel about keeping the packaging, but ASUS is clearly betting that Edition 20 buyers are the type who do.

In the US, ASUS does not let buyers cherry-pick from this group at all. The Astral RTX 5090 Edition 20 lists at USD 5,499.99 but is only orderable inside an Edition 20 bundle carrying the GR20 case, the Crosshair X870E package and the Thor 3000W, with a minimum order of USD 10,349.96 before tax.
