ASUS ROG has a pair of new gaming laptops and while not ROG Flow Z13 kinda new, it does bring with it some key upgrades tech-wise that’s sure to trickle down eventually but for now, these are some of the best-in-class in their respective form factors or at least competitive enough for the top: today we see the debut of the ROG Flow X16 convertible laptop and the ROG Strix SCAR 17 SE.
ROG Flow X16
The ROG Flow X16 is an upsize of 2021’s ROG Flow X13. The Flow X models are convertible laptops that are to fold into a laptop and use this flexibility to also stand in other ways. But at its core, its either a laptop or a tablet and at 13″, the original Flow X13 was quite powerful featuring very beefy specs for its form factor. ASUS stated that they are responding for a demand for a larger Flow X model hence the release of the Flow X16.
The new larger body has given ASUS more space to more hardware in yet still keep the relative weight and thickness expected from a Flow X model. The Flow X16 still features the ROG custom XG Mobile interface but you really don’t need it as the Flow X16 already boasts an RTX 3070 Ti as well as new Ryzen 9 6900HS CPU.
Bolstering the new ROG Flow X16’s spec sheet is a 1100 nits Nebula HDR screen with a QHD 165hz display, its made to wow in both gaming and media consumption.
This new larger still bumps up the weight but ASUS ROG tries their best to keep it as friendly to a tablet form as possible.
ROG Strix SCAR 17 SE
The team at ROG systems is really pleased with this model despite its similar looks to the existing ROG Strix SCAR 17. The SCAR 17 SE gets a slight retool of its chassis to accommodate a larger vapor chamber cooler to supports its incredibly beefy spec sheet.
The SCAR 17 SE comes with an Intel Core i9-12900HX CPU and an RTX 3080 Ti. Combined, they can push 200W+ of power and that’s heavy cooling tasks which is ASUS decided to go with a different cooler and bump up the housing a bit in size. The cooling is aided further by a new vapor chamber assembly as well as increase finstacks and the help of Thermal Grizzly’s new Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal thermal interface material.
To compliment the performance scale of the ROG Strix SCAR 17 SE, we get a 17″ IPS display with options for a 1080p 360Hz panel or a QHD 240hz one.
The ROG Strix SCAR 17 SE will simply look like a spec bump for most users but for ROG purists that like the best the brand has to offer, ASUS also dresses up the ROG Strix SCAR 17 SE with a unique UV-reactive treatment on the lid. A design all to its own and is exclusive to the ROG Strix SCAR 17 SE.
