What the Stars Say About Ken and Ryu

The studio frames the pair as “Sworn brothers. Greatest rivals.” According to Centineo (Ken): “Ken and Ryu go way, way back. They were training partners and friends for a very long time.”

Koji, who plays Ryu, adds: “They were brothers, no, actually, blood brothers, that in this story have not spoken because there was an event that caused them to go very separate paths.”

This pulls from many adaptation of the Shoto bros. back-story. Also one cool tidbit is that see Gouken in the featurette (not spoiling it here, see the vid)

Story and Setting

According to the studio, the film is set in 1993. Estranged Street Fighters Ryu and Ken Masters are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament, which the release calls a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury. The studio says a deadly conspiracy lies behind the tournament and forces the two to face off against each other and the demons of their past.

The studio says the film brings the battle from the arcade to the big screen with Hadokens, roundhouses, and the series’ familiar characters. Our earlier coverage of the official character posters for Street Fighter shows more of the cast in character.
