WebGeek.ph is inviting all developers, technologists, futurists and creatives to their annual hackathon: DevCup 2014. Now in its 3rd year, the 2014 WebGeek DevCup will be held once again at the Meralco Multi-Purpose Hall this August 16-17 at Ortigas, Mandaluyong City. Challenge yourself by participating in this one of a kind opportunity to showcase your skills as well as learn by collaborating with a team or your fellow DevCup participants.
For a quick list of rules, see below:
Rules & Requirements:
- Registration. Only registered teams will be only to compete. Participants must register as a team or individual and each group can be composed of 3 members maximum.
- Hack. You can build either a mobile, web app, platform or desktop application.
- Languages & Tools. You can use whatever programming language/development tools/frameworks/API you want. Participants are expected to bring the necessary tools to build their competition entry.
- Procedure. In this event, participants will be given 2 days to develop an app on the theme to be given that day. Staying overnight is not allowed ( must vacate by 12MN, come back by 10AM the following day)
- No Offsite Development. All development must be performed on-site between the aforementioned start and end times for the event. We don’t allow teams to re-purpose an existing app, add a feature, then mask their badly disguised demo as a hack.
- Demo/Judging. No Powerpoint! No Presentation. Participants will present their output from their respective tables. Judges will roam around to individually check and test each output.
Rules Changes. WebGeek DevCup reserves the right to make rules modifications prior to the start of the event. Please check back occasionally for changes!
For more details, see the official WebGeek.ph DevCup 2014 event site.
Just in case you are too lazy to click that link, here’s another list of what you should bring:
What should I bring for the event?
- laptop
- charger
- tools that you need to develop your app
- extension cord (we would be providing 2 power sockets per table)
- pocket wifi/broadband dongle
- pen and paper
- toothbrush – toothpaste optional
- comfortable clothing -Â Shorts and slippers will be allowed.
Italicized remarks are editor comments.
Note: If you are bringing your own internet connectivity device, we highly recommend that you bring a broadband dongle instead of a pocket wifi. We have been consistently getting issues from our previous hackathons on pocket wifi’s interfering with the venue’s wifi signal.
