With the sole purpose of being an overclocking tool for record runs or just plain on chasing numbers, the GIGABYTE Z87X-OC shows its the right tool for the job. The chart alone shows us the board can go past the others we’ve tested squeezing out our processor whilst still being in our safe voltage surging us to 4.7Ghz. Memory is also impressive topping our charts. Having been a bit disappointed with our SuperPI32M run, yours truly decided to test what the board can do all out.ÂÂ
Joining a 5Ghz challenge, we took the GIGABYTE Z87X-OC and pumped out 1.38v on our retail i7-4770K. Way too much, yes, but nothing is too much for science! We managed to shed off 6 seconds off our initial run by fiddling with the memory timings. Nothing to write home about but just shows how solid the tweaking options are in the Z87X-OC. Barring the 5Ghz limit, we managed to clock in higher by fiddling with the OC buttons giving us more juice real-time when needed. The OC Trigger came in really handy. This replaces the LN2 switch in the Z77X-UP7. All in all, great experience overclocking with the Z87X-OC.
